Storyteller Conference 2023

Read for Good hosted our annual Storyteller Conference on the 23rd and 24th of May this year. Having finally been able to reunite our storytellers in 2022 after a tumultuous three years without meeting through the pandemic, it was fantastic to have another opportunity to bring our whole team together.

The Storyteller Conference is a two day event, bringing together Read for Good office staff and our on the ground storytelling superstars. These two days allow us all to learn from each other, reflect on recent experiences and ultimately share best practice for what children and their families need when facing the challenges of a hospital stay, and how our services can fit in for busy hospital staff.

This year’s sessions included updates on our strategy and values, sharing learnings from CPD sessions, a Makaton class, external safeguarding training, and a space for mental wellbeing reflections.

Alongside learning from each other, this opportunity is also a chance for us all to catch up, with our storytellers visiting hospitals from Bangor to Belfast and Exeter to Edinburgh it’s the perfect opportunity to come together and socialise (and take some fun and silly photos!). Having dinner together as an extended team of staff, storytellers and Trustees was a wonderful experience, with many stories shared and enjoyed by all.

We’re already looking forward to the next opportunity to bring our team of storytellers and staff together again.
