We were delighted to learn about the Department for Education and National Literacy Trust plans to make 2026 a National Year of Reading.
At Read for Good, ever since our very first Readathon® over 40 years ago, it’s been our daily mission to help unlock the life-changing power of reading. Today, for example, we’re…

…packing books for our next delivery to the UK’s 30 major children’s hospitals. Chelsea, one of our 11 amazing Storytellers is on her way to the Royal Manchester Hospital for a day of Storytelling on the children’s wards. We’re reviewing the results of our recent Brilliant Bookshop Experience, which we ran in Leicester in partnership with National Book Tokens, to encourage a life-changing love of reading in Year 10 pupils.
Meanwhile, back at Read for Good HQ, we’re sending out Brilliant Boxes of Books to successful applicants, collating unique insights into what children are choosing to read of their own volition via our Track My Read® app and we’re sending out emails publicising our latest blockbuster event: our live Michael Rosen Day virtual event on 13 November. Plus, of course, we’re receiving applications from schools around the country who want to run Readathon, our sponsored read which has touched the lives of tens of millions of children over the years.
We’d love the ‘Year of Reading’ to turn into a ‘Lifetime of Reading’. And with your help, we believe we can. There are so many ways to make a difference and spread the magic of reading. Just be sure to have fun! After all, with just one in three children and young people saying they enjoy reading in their spare time, reading for pleasure has never been more important.
