Storytelling Conference 2024

Two marvellous days were spent at our Storytelling Conference at our Headquarters in Nailsworth in Gloucestershire. Our storytellers come together annually for a two day conference which involves a wonderful mix of learning and sharing from each other, as well as looking at ways of how we adapt and add fresh ideas to our hospital programme.

One of the notable items on the agenda was a shared session with the storytellers, the staff team and also some of our fabulous trustees. We discussed the valuable work that the storytellers do during their hospital visits and exactly how they do it with such empathy and intuition. Storytellers recounted moments that have stuck with them over the years, followed by our fundraising and Readathon teams, recalling moments of storytelling that strengthens the work they do when communicating the importance of inspiring and empowering children and young people to develop a life-long love of reading and stories.

We also had a fantastic guest speaker from SWEDA (Supporting People with Eating Disorders Across the Southwest); updates on our strategy and values; safeguarding training and creative sessions. Our storytellers led sessions on story massage; storytelling with puppets and even a workshop making characters out of grass reeds!

It is always a joy to bring our storytellers and wider team together. A valuable and special time in our Read for Good calendar – we look forward to putting all that we have learnt into practice!
