Readathon Summer Party 2024!

At Read for Good, one of the highlights of our year is the Readathon Summer Party. Now in its third year, we invited all schools that signed up for this year’s Readathon to join us for this exciting virtual event, with around 100 schools joining in and 9,000 pupils watching live across the country.

This annual event is a fantastic way for us to highlight the amazing work schools and students have done to raise money for seriously ill children in UK hospitals. We love to celebrate the positive impact they have made through participating in Readathon and further inspire them to enjoy reading.

Our Summer Party is made possible by some incredible authors, illustrators and organisations who align with our mission to get more children reading for pleasure. They each share their joy and enthusiasm for books and storytelling to help children read what they love, and love what they read!

This year we were delighted to be joined by:

The Summer Party was a fabulous celebration of all things reading – from non-fiction to comics and everything in between! Lauren Child and S. F Said gave us a peek into their world of writing, we learnt how to create impressive character illustrations in just a few minutes, and that you need to be able to abseil to work in Scholastic’s sky-scraping warehouse! (No, really!) And we also had an insight into why chutney and Croydon feature so regularly in Jamie Smart’s Bunny vs Monkey.

“Follow whatever you love….there are books for you out there. Once you find something you love, read as much of it as you can. There’s no such thing as bad reading – it’s all good!”

S.F. Said

We couldn’t agree more!

We continue to be impressed and humbled by the thousands of school pupils who support our fundraising through Readathon each year. Through their work, we are able to share the joy of books and stories with children in hospitals across the UK.

And calling all schools! Make sure you order your Readathon kit for 24/25 to secure your school’s place at our next great online event with the brilliant DAVID BADDIEL! David is a comedian, presenter, screenwriter and author of The Parent Agency and forthcoming Small Fry and of course, co-creator of the iconic anthem Three Lions on My Shirt! …It’s coming home, it’s coming home…
