READ Gloucestershire! is a new campaign uniting children across the county in reading for fun as part of a two-year initiative.
Even as they deliver lessons remotely, Gloucestershire schools are joining forces with library services, theatres, community groups and businesses led by Nailsworth-based, Read for Good. READ Gloucestershire! will provide numerous opportunities for schools and the wider community to share their experiences of encouraging children to read for fun, while getting books to children in need across the county.
The campaign officially kicked-off on Friday 29 January with author Sam Copeland delivering a virtual event for primary school home learners.
READ Gloucestershire! has been funded by Gloucestershire Community Foundation, John Lewis & Partners and several private Trusts including the Hitchins Family Trust.
Talitha Nelson, CEO of Gloucestershire Community Foundation said: “I had a chance to see first-hand the impact of Read for Good’s reading projects in Gloucestershire and I can attest to the power of books and reading that was brought to life by the charity. We’re excited to be supporting READ Gloucestershire! giving Read for Good an opportunity to focus its work on home turf.”
