Lisa Williamson Online Event

A fabulous free online author event with Lisa Williamson took place on Friday 24 October, with around 60 schools and over 2,400 students registering to watch.

Lisa grew up in Nottinghamshire and loved making up stories, drawing, dancing and trying to train her rabbit, Juniper, to do tricks! She has written books for both children and young adults, is an actor and has starred in many musicals, pantomimes and TV adverts over the years.

During the event, Lisa shared her love of reading and writing and her inspiration for new book, Selfie Queen, the latest instalment in the brilliant Bigg School series, telling the stories of different children in Year 7 as they navigate the ups and downs of growing up. A recording of the event is available here.

Cherry Land, Read for Good’s Acting CEO says:

“At Read for Good, we believe in the life-changing power of reading for fun and the role of books in providing comfort and support. Lisa’s books provide a wonderfully empathetic view of some of the issues faced by young people growing up today and this fabulous event is sure to inspire children to read and to be their authentic selves.”

Through generous publisher donations, we were also able to send 5 prize-draw winning schools a couple of Lisa’s fabulous books, including Selfi Queen.

Our huge thanks go to Lisa Williamson, Bella Pearson at Guppy Books and Catherine Alport PR for making this event possible.

We continue to be impressed and humbled by the thousands of school pupils who support our fundraising through Readathon® each year. Through their work, we are able to share the joy of books and stories with children in hospitals across the UK.

And calling all schools! Get reading and raising by ordering your free Readathon kit for 25/26 and keep the reading buzz going. Plus, you can join our amazing virtual event with the brilliant Michael Rosen on Thursday 13 November.

“Reading, especially for fun, is so important… it’s a habit you can start now and you’ll have for the rest of your life… so keep reading to help yourself and others!”
