Konnie Huq delights pupils at Hazlemere Combined School

A long, long time ago, back in 2019, the pupils of Hazlemere Combined School won an exclusive visit to their school from author, screen-writer and television and radio presenter, Konnie Huq. Konnie was looking forward to sharing her science-loving character Cookie with pupils, when the World was struck down by Covid. Konnie’s visit had to be postponed as teachers and pupils got to grips with home-schooling and all things related to lockdown.

Not to be thwarted by Covid, we’re delighted that between Konnie, her publisher, Bonnier Books, Read for Good and the school, Konnie was finally able to make good on her commitment, albeit a few years later! Konnie timed her visit to coincide with World Book Day 2024, so it was a real celebration of all things reading.

Konnie, popular with kids and adults alike for her TV and radio presenting, is also the longest-serving female presenter of BBC Blue Peter. Her Cookie! series is a huge hit with 7-12 year olds. Her interactive show for schools includes live comic strip illustrations, quizzes and science experiments such as exploding Mentos, all of which are sure to get the whole school buzzing!

Hazlemere has run Readathon twice, raising a rather staggering £4,190 to help us get books to children in hospital. We hope that Konnie has provided extra inspriration for their next reading challenge!
