Pupils at The Study School

Such a “positive way to promote literacy” – The Study School, New Malden tell us about their first ever Readathon

Today was a very exciting day for the whole of KS2 at our school. After enjoying ourselves the day before with the celebration of Roald Dahl’s 100thbirthday, we decided to encourage pupils to read more by organising a Readathon!

Children in KS2 (aged 7-11) embarked on an 8 hour long reading marathon to raise money for charity and promote literacy. The hours seemed daunting for some and thrilling for others and I have to say a huge well done to our younger pupils. It was a tough challenge but we made it! We’re looking forward to getting all the sponsor cards back to see how much we raised. It was also a great time for us teachers to share our reading books with children and I finally got to dive into Harry Potter.

Readathon is such a positive way to promote literacy in school, so easy to set up thanks to the package we received from the organisation and for such a great cause!

I often see Secondary schools taking up the challenge but Primary Schools, we can do it too!
