St Mary’s Catholic High School
“Year after year our pupils look forward to taking part and taking time to read whatever they love.”
St Mary’s Catholic High School is a co-educational secondary school in Chesterfield and part of the Diocese of Hallam Academies Trust. Over the years, the school has raised over £40,000. Librarian Mrs Tracy Carroll has organised 24 of the school’s Readathons. She said:
“Taking part in Readathon helps to develop our pupils as readers and brings together the school community in a shared love of reading. Year after year our pupils look forward to taking part and taking time to read whatever they love. Throughout Readathon we have various activities to encourage students to engage with reading. As it runs into the half term holiday, we set our pupils a challenge to take photos of themselves reading in unusual places to show that reading can really be done anytime and anywhere!
“Supporting our wider community is incredibly important to us as a school and Readathon provides an opportunity for students to see how their efforts are benefiting others. Every year they astound me with how committed and motivated they are to read, knowing that what they raise will help children in hospital across the UK and especially in Sheffield Children’s Hospital.”
