Readathon Summer Party 2023

Join our spectacular virtual author event, the Readathon Summer Party*, at 10am on Thursday 22 June to celebrate YOUR school’s amazing reading and raising! All schools who run Readathon in 2022-2023 will be eligible for the event and will receive an invitation to register via email. If you are eligible, but have not received the email, please contact reading@readforgood.org

Be inspired by the brilliant M G Leonard as she chats with our party guests. Hear Skye McKenna talk about her inspiration for the Hedgewitch series, draw your own character with Sarah McIntyre, discover the world of poetry with Matt Goodfellow and explore comics and graphic novels with Comics Laureate, Stephen Holland. PLUS, enjoy a story with Wilf, one of Read for Good’s fabulous hospital storytellers and test your knowledge in our mini quiz! Ideal for ages 7-13, everyone is welcome to join the fun! Eligible schools will be sent a recording of the event shortly afterwards to watch again or share within your school.

*All schools that have run Readathon or Track My Read this academic year will be eligible for the event and will be sent a registration link. Expected duration 50 mins.

Please note: Two of the poems shared by Matt Goodfellow in the event may present a trigger for some pupils. The poem ‘Split’ (from Bright Bursts of Colour) talks about living between two houses due to the separation of parents, while the poem ‘Callum’ (from Let’s Chase Stars Together) talks about a difficult upbringing and trying to follow a different path to that of his family. While both poems are sensitive and emotive, Matt presents all his poems as a way to navigate, express and understand difficult feelings and circumstances. However, if you have a pupil currently experiencing either of these issues, it may be helpful for you to be aware of this content ahead of the event. You can read the poems here.
