Beyond the Blackboard Tutors

Read for Good were thrilled when Ranulf Kinlock Jones, founder of Beyond the Blackboard Tutors, reached out to share that he was keen to choose us as his organisation’s charity partner.

Through this partnership, Beyond the Blackboard Tutors will make a donation for every hour of tutoring the organisation delivers, to help us get a brand new book into the hands of a disadvantaged child in schools across the UK. We know that reading for pleasure can transform the lives of disadvantaged students, but with libraries decimated as a result of the pandemic, and school budgets stretched, getting access to new books isn’t easy. We’re excited this partnership will go some way in helping to improve school libraries, getting the best new books to the students who need them most.

Ran noted, “…As a teacher this issue [of poor literacy] came up time and time again, and the sad truth is that it will extend throughout a student’s entire life if not tackled. If you can’t write a 1,500 word essay for university, a well-worded and concise CV for a job, or a delicately worded email to a colleague or client, it limits your prospects and opportunities in life. 

And the most effective way to improve literacy is to encourage reading for the joy of reading as early in a young person’s life as possible. That is why I have chosen Read for Good as Beyond the Blackboard Tutor’s charity partner.
