Retiring Hospital Teacher Fiona Dyson reflects on her experience of Read of Good’s bookcase and storytelling in hospital
22nd July 2022
Over the last seven years at Evelina Hospital School I have often been completely overwhelmed by the impact made by Read for Good.
Firstly I have seen the impact when the deliveries of books arrive and staff become very excited to see what reading gems they contain. Then I have seen the impact when young people on wards carefully select their book and can’t quite believe such a beautiful book is theirs to enjoy and then to take home. I have also seen the impact on families when they share a book with their child during a special time together on our wards. Read for Good Storyteller Jen has proved the positive impact of stories time and time again.
My career-long passion to promote reading opportunities as a human right was brilliantly supported by Read for Good.
We have been lucky enough to host visits from many amazing authors and illustrators thanks to Read for Good, the impact of inspiring writers on young people has been a joy to witness.
Appearing on the BBC Morning Live to talk about this during a Read for Good feature last December was too good an opportunity to miss !
Thank you Read for Good, your work will always be much appreciated by Evelina Hospital School.
Working in partnership with Read for Good to bring the joy of reading to our children has been a career highlight for me. I can retire assured that your partnership with Evelina Hospital School will continue for many years to come !
