Challenge Events – FAQs

Have a question about taking part in an event for Read for Good? This page should help but you can always ask us a question via reading@readforgood.org  or by calling us on 01453 839005 if you have any additional questions.

Is there a fundraising minimum for taking part?

If you are entering an event with a free place from Read for Good (subject to availability), Yes. The minimum depends on which race length you’re entered in for. This will be agreed upon place confirmation.

If you have purchased your own place, there is only a suggested fundraising target. Any money you raise enables us to bring the joy of books to children around the UK.

How do I set up a fundraising page?

You can set up a fundraising page using Enthuse, this is a short and easy process. To give yourself the best start, always make sure to include your reason for taking part, a recent photo of yourself, and your fundraising target.

I can’t take part in my event anymore - what should I do?

If you have to withdraw prior to the event, please notify Read for Good immediately by emailing reading@readforgood.org.

  • If your place is free: We can re-allocate your place to someone else on the waiting list.
  • If you paid for your event: Unfortunately we do not offer refunds on our event places
  • How can Read for Good support me?

We can give you support, fundraising tips, encouragement and advice throughout your training and before the challenge.

What can I tell people when they ask me about Read for Good?

Read for Good’s mission is to enable, empower and motivate children and young people to discover the joy of reading. Reading for pleasure can change a child’s future, regardless of their background.

How can I share photos from my event?

We love to see photos of our supporters, and be able to share them on our social media. Please email ella@readforgood.org and we will send our Media Consent form. See our Use of Images policy for further information.

Can I do my own fundraising without an event?

Of course you can! Some people have the perfect idea for fundraising that works for them, and others might need a bit more inspiration. No matter how you feel, we’ve got an A-Z of Fundraising Ideas resource that can help you get creative.

Would anything stop me from taking part?

Each event will have its own terms and conditions. As a standard, events are limited to ages 15 and up.

    Who runs these events?

Read for Good do not personally organise these events. Run for Charity hosts the admin and place access to events such as Run Drayton Manor and The Shakespeare Marathon. The Great North Run Company hosts the event, admin and place access to the Great North Swim.

Can I run in Read for Good branded merchandise?

Yes, once your entry to your event has been confirmed with the event organisers, we will get in touch to arrange for a Read for Good running top to be sent to you.

When do I need to complete my fundraising?

Any funds that you’ve raised on Enthuse will come through to us automatically. On average 75% of funds are raised before the event takes place, so it’s always a good idea to keep your fundraising page open for a month after the event. Make sure to close your page once you’ve received your final donation!

How would the funds I raise be used?

The funds you raise will brighten the days of children in hospitals across the UK, and bring the magic of books and stories of some of the most disadvantaged children.
