Read for Good’s Brilliant Box of Books – supporting school libraries
“I’m wondering what to read next…” Matilda
Children read more when they read what they like. This was the view of Readathon’s first chair, Roald Dahl, and one that is supported by decades of research and our experience of running Readathon over the last 35-plus years.
Read for Good’s mission is to support children to love reading, with all the lifelong benefits this brings: from emotional wellbeing to social mobility and attainment. Now more than ever, schools need an exciting range of books to hook and inspire children, firing up a love of reading that transforms lives.
We’ve given more than £1 million of book vouchers to schools in partnership with Scholastic Book Clubs since 2010. We also receive donations of new books and comics from authors and publishers, as well as funding from trusts and foundations.
With school libraries still not statutory, our evidence is that many are under-resourced and struggling. Nurturing young readers to read joyfully, opening up worlds and possibilities by getting brilliant books to those who need them is a key focus for our charity.
If you are a school or medical setting in need of books and comics, please complete our survey or email brilliantbooks@readforgood.org for more information.
