Wished
Lissa Evans
Imagine what could happen if the birthday wishes you made when you blew the candles out came true? Such is the simple and very clever idea behind this new book by Lissa Evans (Wed Wabbit, Small Change for Stuart)
Ed and his sister Roo have to spend a week with their neighbour, boring Miss Filey. Boring until they find a box of old birthday candles and a set of adventures you can only wish for.
This is a wonderful book. I loved the adventures the children went on, which have a bit of an old-fashioned feeling about them, – solving an art theft, sailing out to sea, going into space and being a film star, not to mention my favourite part, having to use a telephone which came with an illustration for today’s reader.
It is also refreshing to read a story about a main character in a wheelchair without this being central to the plot. I’m sure that this will be appreciated by disabled readers. Highly recommended!
