The Storm Cloud

Frances Stickley, illustrated by Emily Hamilton

At a glance

The bear in this gentle picture book is feeling sad and doesn’t know why, nor does he know what to do about it. Luckily he has friends who are happy to just be with him and wait until his cloud has passed. One message is that it’s good to talk and another that being able to accept that one might prone to depression is important.
I liked it because although the word depression never appears, and the sad cloud above bear doesn’t leave, it becomes easier to cope with. A very helpful message for anyone.
Although firmly aimed at very young children, almost anyone might learn from the story.
Perfect for reading aloud.
