The Museum of Lost Umbrellas

Marie-Louise Fitzpatrick

Sheer escapism! A magical island off the Bristol coastline, the arrival of eleven year old Dilly to stay with a kindly but enigmatic great aunt, a friendly local boy and a large dog called Parsley, all part of the new Cloud Witch Chronicles by Carnegie shortlisted author Marie-Louise Fitzpatrick.

Dilly is nervous but excited when her social worker takes her to Ollipest to live with her Grand Aunt Florence. Everything appears normal but is a little strange at the same time – she meets a talking parrot, her house grants wishes and she seems to have been adopted by a little green umbrella. Unfortunately, not everyone is happy that the Museum of Lost Umbrellas has reopened and so  it falls to Dilly and her friends to uncover what is really happening on Ollipest.

It will be difficult not to fall in love with this gentle fantasy story. It has an old-fashioned vibe (umbrellas flying – think Mary Poppins), and is highly recommended for a holiday read.

Out on August 14th and I can’t wait for book 2.
