April joins her father on a research trip to an uninhabited island in the Arctic circle. She is very much alone in her exploration of this frozen world, whilst her father works extraordinarily hard in the weather station. As her father notes and comments on the climate, April discovers with her whole self what the outside world is like. She finds a bear as isolated as she feels, and their relationship and story are magical.
This book would be wonderful to read to a child as well as infinitely appropriate for a child beginning to enjoy reading independently to get lost in.
