The Kingdom Over The Sea

Zohra Nabi

‘My own Yara, if you are reading this, then something terrible has happened, and you are on your own. To return to the city of Zehaira, you must read out the words on the back of this letter . . . Good luck, my brave girl.’

So begins Yara’s epic adventure into a faraway kingdom where sorcerers, alchemists and magic exist, unfortunately not always happily together, as Yara seeks an understanding of her mother’s last wishes.

This is such an exciting debut fantasy novel. Yara is a strong and at times stroppy, heroine who is instantly likeable. The people she meets as she ventures further into new and strange lands, surround her with friendship, wariness or growing respect that readers will find they easily relate to. The writing is beautiful as are the illustrations by Tom Clohosy Cole. We hope to read more about Yara in the future.
