Children’s Laureate, Joseph Coelho invites readers to read and explore his ten-word tiny tales. Each tiny tale is illustrated by a different illustrator, the reader is drawn in to expand the tale – where does it go? What else is happening? How does it end?
The book is very clever in that it can be read at face value as ten-word tales which are short and (not always) sweet or the reader can continue the tale. It works across many levels and is perfect for inspiring some creative writing for all ages. The language is beautiful and is definitely worthy of discussion in class. At the back of the book the author suggests some activities to continue the tales.
Although this is a picture book the themes, images and language are more suited to KS2 & KS3
