Steady for This
Nathanael Lessore
A funny debut novel following wannabe rapper MC Growls (Shaun) and his best friend Shanks. When his live stream goes wrong he finds out what it’s like to go viral and not in a good way… His best friend disappears from his life and the girl of his dreams won’t speak to him. Can Raptology be his saviour? The story covers the awkwardness of being a teenager at school, challenging family life, malapropisms and teen relationships. It had me gripped and keen for the full version to arrive!
I was totally hooked on this book!! It really is very funny but with many poignant moments. Growls is the perfect person to make the reader realise that life on South London housing estates isn’t all gritty and sad. He gets confused, hasn’t experienced life outside of that estate and wants to be liked, add into the mix disability, mental ill health, race and class and I’m pretty sure there are many teenagers who identify with many of those issues!
Highly recommended, especially for boys who may not ordinarily see themselves in the characters of books.
