Roots of Love
Sarah Asuquo, illustrated by Ruthine Burton
A fabulous book to explain the different types of families and to reassure children that all of those different families are full of love.
Tia goes from having the best day ever to crying herself to sleep when her parents tell her that they are going to separate. After listening to her classmates share their school project on families, Tia realises that her family will be different but that she is still loved and will be happy.
The characters have great representation of families including LGBTQ parents, adopted children, bereavement and divorce. With colourful, joyful illustrations which bring the story to life this is highly recommended to share at home and in classrooms. It can help those difficult conversations and help children understand their friends.
