At a glance

Skylar and Dana are besties. They like the same K-Pop group and are eleven years old. Over the weekend, they are looked after by Skylar’s Nana and it also happens to be on the weekend of the biggest K-Pop convention “K-Mania”. Nana comes to pick the girls up from school in her lime-green tuk-tuk where she sells burritos. It is also a time-travel machine! Nana can make it go anywhere she imagines in her mind’s eye. She loves finding new recipes for her business and the best ingredients. Dana is a bit of a ‘boffin’ and super interested in science. Before going to the convention, Nana takes them to Ancient Egypt where they meet the young Tutankhamun, who hides in the tuk-tuk so that when they return to the modern day, Tutankhamun is with them and goes to the ‘K-Mania’ with the girls. He becomes very popular and quickly fits in! Whilst Nana goes to find recipes, the girls take the tuk-tuk on another adventure and find Marie Curie, who takes them to see Benjamin Franklin and Sir Isaac Newton – all scientists who enthrall Dana. We also visit the Wright Brothers and Henry VIII, who is about to marry Catherine Howard – this doesn’t go ahead as the girls tell her she is destined to have her head chopped off! They then meet the Beatles! At this stage, they feel they should stop meddling with the past, get Tutankhamun back to Egypt and work on their relationship which has been sorely tested.

This book got even better as it went along! The inclusion of historical items and people added in a twist to the usual ‘K-Pop’ mania, and the story concentrated on feelings and the relationships between young people. There is lots going on in this book, a bit more compared to the usual ‘K-Pop’ novels!
