Mondays Are Murder
Ravena Guron
Don’t make any plans once you have picked this up as once begun you won’t want to stop! Ravena Guron’s (This Book Kills and Catch your Breath) latest YA thriller is a twisty gripping suspense story based on a simple premise – on each day of the week something terrible will happen until on Monday you will die.
17-year-old Kay returns to her former town where both her aunt and her best friend have died in the past year. On arrival she discovers a note warning her of her own murder on Monday. Kay has 6 days to get to the bottom of what is happening.
I inhaled this. It is a simple but original idea with likeable characters and relatable themes. The book is long but the chapters are short and Guron deftly propels an ever changing list of suspects towards an unexpected but satisfying ending.
Moreover, beneath the story, there is a gentle exploration of the effect of bereavement and loss on families and friendships which add a poignancy to the story. This is a perfect holiday read for teens who need to escape exam season.
