Leave The Trees Please

Benjamin Zephaniah, illustrated by Melissa Castrillon

At a glance

Written with sparse but powerful language this final book by the great Benjamin Zephaniah  and which was published posthumously is a call to arms.

The message to “Leave the trees, to put all living things at ease” is repeated throughout, with rhythm which enables young children to join in.

I loved the illustrations which add additional detail to the story  and which use colour to shift the mood towards a joyous ending.

This is a beautiful book which could be used in KS1 as a starting point to talk about the planet.
