It should be a truth universally acknowledged that this reimagining of the relationship between Kitty and Mary Bennet is superb.
Written in the form of both letters and journal entries the story explores what happens to the other Bennet sisters once Lizzie and Jane have married and moved on. Kitty, the younger sister and Mary, deemed the bookish and unmarriageable one are shown to have a deep fondness for each other, although the touches of sisterly passive aggressiveness that rear up at times is delicious!
What I particularly enjoyed was the emergence of two young women who slowly discover that being themselves is good enough and that happiness is to be found within and not at the hands of societal expectation. A timely reminder for many readers today but above all an utterly delightful read. I loved it!
