Interview with a Tiger and Other Clawed Beasts Too

Andy Seed, illustrated by Nick East

This is a very funny book! Its brave author, Andy Seed, sets out to interview 10 very individual, often cheeky wild animals in their natural setting. If you could talk to an animal, what would you ask them? Step up to the mic the capybara-eating Jaguar, the Giant Anteater with his cool street language or the queen of the beasts, the African Lion, with her handy tips on catching a zebra for lunch.

The text is quirky and entertaining but also really informative. The question-and-answer interview format tells you about each animal’s eating and sleeping habits, their likes and dislikes, their babies, their homes and who their enemies are.

Each interviewee has its own clear personality, a fact that is beautifully captured by Nick East’s humorous illustrations. He also illustrated the favourite picture books Goodnight Digger and Goodnight Tractor, which remain perennially popular for bedtime reading.

From the icy lands of the Polar Bear’s Arctic home to the steamy jungle home of the Bengal tiger, there is a focus throughout the book on endangered animals. It gives practical advice and tips on how children can help preserve the habitats of animals at risk of extinction. Fans of this book will also love Interview with a Shark and Other Ocean Giants Too, and Interview with a Kangaroo and Other Marsupials Too.
