I would give this book 4 stars. Cinderella is Dead is a dystopian/fantasy retelling set 200 years after Cinderella dies. Lille is a place abiding by rules influenced by Cinderella’s story. After she died, it was ruled that all girls must attend an annual ball in order to be chosen by the eligible men in the kingdom. A woman has three years to be chosen as a bride. If not, she forfeits her right to get married and loses her connections to her community. Even if they do get married, some end up in bad marriages and some would rather not get married at all. Against her wishes Sophia Grimmins is about to attend her first ball, she is wanting desperately to escape the tyranny of Lille and on the night of the ball she finds herself in Cinderella’s tomb.
Between the twisted fairy tale that we all know there is quite a bit of violence. Sophia is very brave and headstrong kind of girl, she is incapable of giving up on the people she cares about.
The book has minor plot twists throughout the book, but the main action doesn’t happen until the last few chapters
I would recommend this book for anyone over the age of 13.
