A Flash of Fireflies

Aisha Bushby

Hazel is starting a new life in England as her parents prepare to leave Kuwait. She is sent to her great aunt’s fairy tale cottage with a forbidden room and magical garden. However, fitting in is tough, especially when you are haunted by creatures straight out of a fairy tale…

This is an original and engaging read that cleverly blends the fairy tale trope with the very difficult issue of OCD. (This is further explained with advice from the author at the end of the book). It is a story which could inspire readers to follow Hazel and write their own fairy tale whilst learning about life in Kuwait, OCD and the collective nouns for many insects and animals.
