Tony Robinson at Greenfield Primary

Alex Holt from Greenfield Primary on how winning a visit from Read for Good Patron Sir Tony Robinson has helped inspire the students and how Readathon has helped fuel their passion for reading.

When I took over as Head of English at Greenfield Primary in 2017, I felt the need to spread my love of reading around the school as quickly and as powerfully as possible.

After researching different ways to do this, I stumbled across ‘Read for Good’ ‘s Readathon which jumped out at me as something that just had to be done.

2 years, and 2 successful sponsored reads later… the school achieved one of its highest ever Reading SATs results with 88% Expected and 39% at Greater Depth which we owe to fantastic teaching and a whole-school ethos of reading for pleasure.

The school raises significant amounts for this wonderful charity each year and we were fortunate enough to win a visit from Sir Tony Robinson which only further added to the school’s passion for reading.

We are thrilled to be running our third sponsored read for Read for Good in Spring 2020.
