Our work in Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Liverpool
Our service here launched in 2014, serving the needs of the many thousands of children who spend time in Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. Our books are carefully selected to make sure there’s something for everyone.
“I recently had a patient and her family in for a short stay for who reading was the activity they could all do together as a family and something they enjoyed so much. It was a delight to be able to offer them books that they had not read before”.
Lisa Plews, Senior Health Play Specialist
Helen (pictured below) was once our storyteller at Alder Hey, however Fiona has now taken up the mantle. Children on the wards at Alder Hey benefit from Fiona’s many years of storytelling experience, including being able to tell tales of excitement and intrigue in Welsh for those children who have travelled from nearby North Wales.
In recent years, school children from across Liverpool have helped to read and raise money for the service in our Liverpool Citywide Readathons.
