Our work in Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Liverpool

Our service here launched in 2014, serving the needs of the many thousands of children who spend time in Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. Our books are carefully selected to make sure there’s something for everyone.

“I recently had a patient and her family in for a short stay for who reading was the activity they could all do together as a family and something they enjoyed so much. It was a delight to be able to offer them books that they had not read before and to step in to read to her instead of a family member making it a little bit different, and a pleasure to both her, her family and myself as she was such a delight to read to taking in the pictures and the words intently! “

Lisa Plews, Senior Health Play Specialist

Our storyteller, Helen, loves meeting the children on the wards of Alder Hey and sharing stories with them.

The service has been supported in recent years by the school children of Liverpool through our Liverpool Citywide Readathon, getting children all over the city reading.
