Want to save yourself from boredom during the long summer holidays? Fancy doing your own independent sponsored read outside of school to help children who find themselves in hospital this summer? Then you’re in the right place. It doesn’t matter if you’ve already taken part in a school sponsored read – this is just for you!

We’ve teamed up with Scholastic Book Clubs to create our Big Holiday Read. By taking part in our individual sponsored read, you’ll be raising money to send much-needed books and storytellers to children spending their summer holidays stuck in hospital. Plus you could win your school a visit from top author and Tom Gates creator Liz Pichon.

Get reading!

Decide what you want to read. Anything goes: comics, blogs, listening to books all count. Take a look at Scholastic Book Club’s great choice here, or visit your library and have a go at the Summer Reading Challenge – whatever and however you read is up to you! Ask friends and family to sponsor you – per book or per minute.

Why it matters


For every £10 you raise, around 12 children who are stuck in hospital will be able to read the best new books. WOW! So the more you read, the more you raise, and the more books we can get to children in hospital! Find out more here.
